*Just a few days after his birthday, the family of Dr. Martin Luther King is in a bit of a tangle.
The estate recently filed a lawsuit against Baude Ballou, the civil rights leader’s former secretary, over documents that she currently possesses.
Ballou became Dr. King’s right hand shortly after the arrest of Rosa Parks in Montgomery, Ala. She was responsible for scheduling meetings and appearances and allegedly was given documents from both King and Rosa Parks.
The documents included copies of the late leader’s speeches and letters from him and Parks to Ballou.
The King estate became aware of the documents in 2010 and shortly thereafter wanted them, claiming they were the property of Dr. King.
However the court sided with the former secretary, saying they were a gift to her from King and they are rightfully hers.
