Scientists Use Video Game Tech to Remotely Control Cockroaches on Autopilot

A North Carolina University research team have used video game technology to remotely control cockroaches on autopilot, so that they can be used in rescue operations at disaster sites.  By incorporating Microsoft’s motion sensing Kinect system into an electronic interface they remotely steere the cockroaches with a computer.  Kinect was designed for Xbox 360 video game consoles.

The roaches are plugged in with a digitally plotted path and with the help kinect they identify and track the pogres made by the insect.  Afterwards, the tracking data provided by kinect is used to automatically steer the roach along the required path.
