Lil Nas X drops “HERE WE GO!” as theme song for ‘Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F’

Columbia Records

Lil Nas X‘s latest song “HERE WE GO!” is the theme song for Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F, so feel free to call him Detective Montero.

The rapper dropped the energetic and catchy tune — which notably features a sample of Harold Faltermeyer‘s iconic original “Axel F” theme song from 1984’s Beverly Hills Cop — on Friday.

In a recent interview, Lil Nas X said the first time he heard the original theme song was on Family Guy, and he thought, “Wait, that’s actually a nice little melody,” before he saw the film years later.

“It was actually kind of insane,” the “Old Town Road” singer said about getting to leave his mark on the beloved film franchise starring Eddie Murphy. “I was a bit, like, emotional.”

“And I know, like, my dad and family, this probably would be the thing they’d go the most, like, insane about me doing, because it’s so close to them,” he added.

According to a press release, Lil Nas X’s song is featured multiple times throughout Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F and plays over the end credits as the movie’s theme song.

Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F streams July 3 on Netflix.

Rihanna says because fans are so loyal, her new music needs to be “timeless”

Kayla Oaddams/WireImage

Despite wearing a T-shirt that said “I’m Retired” a few weeks back, Rihanna still has plans for a new album — but she says that because her previous music was so successful, it’s going to have to be extra special.

Speaking to Extra, Rihanna said her record as the female artist who’s released the most RIAA-certified Diamond songs — seven — is all due to her fans, and she owes them music that’s going to stand the test of time.

“(That achievement) really was a testament to my fans and the quality of music, and it was just a reminder of how I need to approach my next album,” she said. “I want things to be timeless, just like (the song) ‘Diamonds’ — things that touch people.”

“The way my fans have continued to listen to my music without putting music out, hitting records when you are in a whole ’nother headspace is nuts,” she added. “It’s just a testament to them. They’re so supportive and they’re loyal.”

Rihanna’s last album, Anti-, came out in 2016. Since then, she’s become a billionaire beauty and fashion mogul and the mother of two sons, RZA and Riot, with partner A$AP Rocky.

Lil Nas X says new single for ‘Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F’ is “the best song of all time”

The Tyler Twins/Netflix

Friday sees the release of “Here We Go!,” the song Lil Nas X recorded for the upcoming Netflix film Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F. And according to Nas, it’s pretty great. In fact, he thinks no other song has ever been better.

“so excited to release the best song of all time this friday!” he wrote on Instagram. “also sorry I’ve been so scared with my art lately. I’m coming around to myself again. I will make you guys very proud.”

He posted the artwork for the song, which takes the form of a Detroit police detective ID. Instead of Eddie Murphy‘s Axel Foley character, it shows a picture of Nas, using his birth name, Montero.

Nas’ “He Knows” duet partner Camila Cabello responded in the comments, “nature has seasons and so do we there is no spring without winter. it’s your time to bloom baby!!!”

Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F starts streaming on Netflix July 3.
