Music Notes: A Boogie’s first Diamond song, Toni Braxton extends tour and more

A Boogie wit Da Hoodie has earned his first-ever Diamond certification with “Drowning” featuring Kodak Black, which has successfully sold 10 million copies. He was presented with a plaque during his sold-out hometown show at New York’s Madison Square Garden on Monday. He brought 50 Cent, Fabolous, Cash Cobain, Mary J. Blige and more artists onstage to perform.

— Ready, Set, Love! Gunna is considering adding a few love songs to his new album. “I might do this love album,” he told Spotify’s A Day In The Life. “Not all love songs but just a pocket of songs that’s more intimate,” Gunna clarified. “I think that’s going to be the next album for me.”

–Speaking of albums, Metro Boomin may release just one more on streaming services. He explained why via a shared tweet that read, “A fan needs to stream an artist’s music 20 times a day for a whole year for that artist to make $25 from a fan.”

Toni Braxton has added more dates to her Love & Laughter tour with Cedric the Entertainer. The six new dates at The Chelsea at The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas are: Aug. 9 and Aug. 10, Oct. 18 and Oct. 19, and Dec. 20 and Dec. 21. Tickets for the added shows will go on sale Wednesday at 10 a.m. PT.

— Rapper Julio Foolio, born Charles Jones, has died at age 26. WTVG reports he was killed in a shooting Sunday in Tampa, Florida, where he’d gone to celebrate his birthday. A law firm representing Julio says he was ambushed following his involvement in an accident that took place in his hotel’s parking lot. He was known for his song “Voo Doo.”

Megan Thee Stallion releases “It’s Prime Day” in partnership with Amazon

With its annual Prime Day approaching, Amazon has tapped Megan Thee Stallion to help promote the two-day event. On Tuesday, the rapper released a song titled “It’s Prime Day.”

“I’m Tina Snow, and I shop all the time/ I can be who I want thanks to Amazon Prime/ With the shorts that make the booty sit like mine/ Once you log in, there ain’t nothin’ hard to find,” Meg rapped on the track, which will be featured on Amazon Music’s exclusive version of Meg’s album. “They got lashes, jewelry, clothes, candles/ Imma login and blow a bag on my animals/ 4oe got a shirt, Oneita got a purse/ How ’bout squeaky toys? Let’s see who catch it first.”

In the clip, Meg’s seen ordering different items, each of which were used to tap into another character. She dresses as a chef, cosplayer, stylist, lifeguard and more before the video wraps up. 

Prime Day takes place July 16 and July 17; the sales are only accessible to Prime members who pay a monthly or annual fee.

André 3000’s ‘New Blue Sun’ tour is on the way

André 3000 is taking his debut solo album on the road. He’s announced a tour in support of the instrumental  album, New Blue Sun, described as “a celebratory piece of work in the form of a living, breathing, improvised, aural organism.” 

With help from supporting acts Carlos Niño, Nate Mercereau and Surya Botofasina with Deantoni Parks, he’ll kick off his 26-city trek in New Orleans on Sept. 19. LA’s Greek Theater, D.C.’s John F. Kennedy Center For The Performing Arts and Atlanta’s Fox Theatre are among the venues where he’ll take the stage.

Tickets go on sale Friday at 10 a.m. local time. 

New Blue Sun, on which Three Stacks plays the flute, was released in November 2023. The upcoming tour marks his second supporting trek, as he played a “run of intimate live shows” following the album’s release.

Sexyy Red announces Sexyy Red 4 President! tour

Sexyy Red wants you to vote for her at the polls, so she’s headed on tour to start her campaign. She shared the dates and locations for her Sexyy Red 4 President! trek Tuesday, revealing the details for 23 of the 26 scheduled shows.

According to the post, the tour will kick off on Aug. 22 in Seattle and make stops in Oakland, Brooklyn, Philadelphia and other cities before wrapping up on Oct. 5. The locations for the Aug. 31, Sept. 23 and Oct. 5 dates have been blurred.

“it’s the Mf Hood Hottest princess Sexyy MF Red!!! And I’m kicking off my campaign tour ‘Sexyy Red 4 President! WE POPPING OUT AND TURNING TF UP!” Sexyy wrote on Instagram. “Tickets on sale this Friday at 1 local! Link in bio!”

Hunxho, Loe Shimmy and Blakeiana will serve as guests.

Common song mixed into Janet Jackson’s tour set

Janet Jackson is on tour, and she’s been featuring songs from other artists in mixes with her own. After recently incorporating Tinashe‘s new hit “Nasty” into her set, a recent show captured her dancing to a mix that included a song from Common.

“Shout to my brother @common. In chicago the other night had to flip ‘Go’ into @janetjackson Nasty!! #TogetherAgaintour2024 #JanetJackson #Common,” wrote Aktive, who’s been DJing for Janet on the road.

Common then reacted, writing, “Wow! It’s a honor to have my song incorporated into the great @JanetJackson show! A special thanks to my brother @djaktive for making it happen!

GloRilla releases “TGIF” music video

The video for GloRilla‘s “TGIF” has arrived just days after the single dropped. 

Directed by Jerry Morka and Diesel, it sees Glo riding on an ATV, dancing on a tour bus and having a ball with her friends on the beach, where she also gets a manicure and pedicure. It’s now available to watch on YouTube.

“TGIF” was first previewed on social media and quickly went viral. Fans made TikToks to the lyrics, “It’s 7 pm Friday, it’s 95 degrees … I ain’t got no n**** and no n**** ain’t got me,” increasing demand for the song, which was finally released on Friday.

It’s also one of the songs performed during her set on Megan Thee Stallion‘s Hot Girl Summer Tour; the next stop is Dallas, Texas, on Wednesday.
