Kendrick Lamar‘s “Not Like Us” was created to be a Drake diss, but it appears to have also become a party-starter in the Black community. In an interview with XXLMustard says he first heard the track alongside the public, refuting rumors that he helped get the Drake diss together.

“I made that beat on my manager’s birthday [April 6]. I sent [Kendrick] maybe three [beats] that day,” he recalled. “He just hearted it. I didn’t hear it ’til [the song] came out.”

Mustard says he was on the freeway when he heard the track and instantly starting getting texts from people who realized he was behind the beat. He called his manager to ask what he missed, found out Kendrick had dropped a song over the beat he’d created and went to take a listen.

“I started going crazy. I had a f*****’ Vegas show that night, so I played that s*** all the way to the f*****’ plane, got to Vegas, played it that night,” Mustard said. “It was f*****’ crazy, man. That’s some crazy s***.”

Though Mustard has some big records under his belt, he says he “never had a record with this kind of impact.”

“I feel like I’m just living in it right now. … [I]t’s an unexplainable feeling,” he tells XXL of the song’s success, adding he attributes being part of this historic moment to his faith.

“I feel really good about what this did,” he continues. “And I do feel like it should make people respect who I am.”

Kendrick Lamar and fans in LA celebrated Juneteenth at his Pop Out concert Wednesday, which also turned out to be a huge party for the city.

The Compton native tapped several LA stars to take the stage, including Dr. Dre, Tyler, the Creator, Steve LacyMustard, Dom Kennedy, DJ Hed, Roddy Ricch and YG, and paid tribute to the late Nipsey Hussle. He then took the stage with a medley of his own hits, making sure to perform Drake diss songs “6:16 in LA,” “Euphoria” and “Not Like Us.”

Kendrick changed the lyrics to “Euphoria” to reflect Drake’s recent purchase of a Tupac ring, rapped about in Travis Scott‘s “Meltdown.” “Give me 2Pac ring back and I might give you a little respect,” he rapped, wearing an outfit similar to Tupac’s look at the 1994 Source Awards.

K.Dot then performed “Not Like Us” six times, bringing Mustard, who produced the beat, Russell Westbrook and others from the West Coast with him onstage to help him close out the show.

The big group consisting of gang members from different “sections” of the city took a picture with Kendrick, who noted it was a moment for LA to unite following the tragic deaths of Kobe Bryant and Nipsey Hussle.

“We been f***** up since Nipsey died. We been f****** up since Kobe died,” K. Dot said.

DeMar DeRozan, LeBron James, Westbrook and Rick Ross were among those in attendance.

The Weeknd has just passed a major musical milestone.

He’s earned two new RIAA Diamond certifications, making him the first Canadian artist to have seven RIAA Diamond-certified tracks. This also makes him only the third artist overall to have seven RIAA Diamond certifications.

The recognitions go to his smash-hit songs “Save Your Tears” and “Die For You.”

The Weeknd also received Platinum certifications for his 2023 tracks “Popular,” which features Madonna and Playboi Carti, and “One of the Girls,” which features JENNIE and Lily-Rose Depp.

Because of this, JENNIE is now the first female K-pop solo artist to earn a Platinum single from the RIAA. This recognition is also Depp’s first Platinum certification and Madonna’s first since her single “4 Minutes.”

Alicia Keys and Swizz Beatz are headed on tour to show the world their art exhibition. They’ll be presenting the Giants: Art from the Dean Collection of Swizz Beatz and Alicia Keys at the High Museum of Art in Atlanta, followed by more dates that will be announced at a later time.

“Our mission has always been about making art accessible to everyone and showcasing these GIANT artists. We realized quickly that meant this collection had to travel to communities across the country and the world. We are so pleased that Atlanta and the High Museum of Art is the first stop on the GIANT tour,” the couple said in a statement.

“ATL is an important part of my story since I went to Stone Mountain High, Redan High and Open Campus,” Swizz added. “I started DJing parties as a kid at Atrium and Club Flavors too! So, bringing Giants to the High is an Art homecoming for me!”

Giants, which first debuted at the Brooklyn Museum, will feature 115 items from the couple’s valuables, including artwork from multigenerational Black diasporic artists, like Nick Cave, Lorna SimpsonKehinde Wiley, Deana Lawson and Ebony G. Rapper Travis Scott arrested overnight in Miami

Rapper Travis Scott arrested overnight in Miami

Miami-Dade County Corrections and Rehabilitation

Travis Scott was arrested early Thursday in Miami on charges of disorderly intoxication and trespassing, according to jail records.

Scott, born Jacques Bermon Webster, was booked at 4:35 a.m. local time, according to jail records. Jail records also note that he submitted a bond of $650 and was expected to be released.

Scott, 33, is set to kick off the European leg of his Circus Maximus Tour next week, starting with two performances in the Netherlands on June 28 and June 30.

He is then set to tour all across the continent throughout July and the beginning of August before heading to Brazil on Sept. 13 to perform at the Rock in Rio music festival.

ABC News has reached out to Scott’s representatives for comment.

Scott was also involved in a fight at a nightclub where he was performing in New York City on March 1, 2023, with the New York Police Department issuing an arrest warrant for the star. He allegedly punched a sound engineer who was working at Club Nebula and damaged $12,000 in sound equipment, according to police.

Scott’s lawyer, Mitchell Schuster, at the time called it “a misunderstanding being blown out of proportion by clickbait and misinformation.” Scott reportedly reached a settlement with the club and was never arrested.
